Wow, Ava, You sure are posting a lot today!

Well, I have a lot to say. And since I am familiar with the term tl;dr, I thought I’d break it up a little. This post will be a facts post. Here’s what’s going on so far.

I had my meeting with the doctor and he explained all of the types of surgery and just gave me general information. It wasn’t all that great, because I’d done my research and pretty much knew everything he was telling me. What I didn’t know was that they (at least at my doctor’s office) really don’t do the band procedure anymore. Apparently they don’t find them very effective, since your stomach is still the same – just a little slower.

That was last Friday (the 12th).

This week, after finally getting the financing together (which was a nightmare as my insurance won’t cover any of this), I went back for my “Initial Bariatric Appointment.” Basically, I met with the doctor again. He recommended gastric bypass as the type of surgery we’d do. He told me about bypass surgery again, took a brief medical history, and recommended a sleep study. I spoke with Linda again about scheduling and promised to bring in a check on Monday. Then I filled out a ton of paperwork.

Monday, I have to take a check to the doctor (a $17,000 check). At that point, they should be able to tell me every appointment I need between now and then. And then we start!

What I think I’m having done between now and then:

Blood Work (probably to include an A1C and cholesterol check)

EKG

Ultrasound

Pap Smear

Sleep Study

I think they said something about an X-ray.

So I guess I will know more on Monday than I do now.

Okay, here goes nothing!

I found out today that we qualified for the loan. I scheduled my gastric bypass surgery for the 8th of August! So here we go!

In the last couple of hours, I think my life has changed. I’m certainly feeling a lot of new things. Primarily, I’m excited! I’m going to lose weight! I’m going to be thin(ner). I’m going to be able to do all kinds of things I couldn’t do before! I could write about this all day.

But I’m also feeling other things. I’m disappointed that I may have to cancel a trip I was going to take. With only 3 weeks until surgery, I have a lot of appointments to work in. I probably won’t have time for one more dip in the lake.

I’m nervous. It’s major surgery after all! Will it hurt? Will I be sick? Will my friend kill me when I tell her I’m bailing on a camp I promised to help her with this year?

I’m also impatient. Yes, even with only 3 weeks of waiting, I’m impatient. Let’s do some blood work now. I’m ready. Let me pack a hospital bag and I’ll be right over.

I also have a lot to think about between now and then. For one thing, who am I going to Tell? And what am I going to tell everyone else? And what clothes will I wear when I drop a couple sizes?

So, it’s safe to say that what I’m feeling the most is overwhelmed! And as usual when there’s too much going on inside of me, all I really want to do right now is take a nap. Of course, I don’t think the Teacup Human will let me get away with that!
